Reading Suggestions
Your child's very first chapter book may be enjoyed in several ways:
1) As a Quick Bedtime Story: When time is short and everyone is tired from a long, hard day the book provides a quick bedtime story for you and your child to enjoy. Share the book with your child all at once as a good night book with emphasis on pictures and rhymes. The rhymes and whimsical pictures make this book a fun read that your child will relate to and that you will both enjoy.
2) As a Close to Story Time: Reading is fun! It is a time for snuggling and getting close. It tickles funnybones, answers questions and stimulates imaginations. There is a lot going on when we read or are being to. These times are so pleasurable that many times it is hard to stop reading and children request non stop story time. Zoo Zoo is the perfect story to cap off and draw a close to endless story time. Zoo Zoo follows a daily schedule which your child can pattern. When he lays lays down for a nap or says good night it is the perfect prompt for your little one to do the same. The good thing about saying good night to Zoo Zoo is that he is going to bed too. The story also lends itself to making wake-up plans for the next day which will assure your child that once they go to sleep they have another fun, creative day ahead to look forward to.
3) As an End of the Day Opportunity to Discuss your Child's Day: You may read the whole book at bedtime and use it to recap the day's activities. Remembering and recounting their busy day, chapter by chapter, will help your child strengthen their memory and communication skills while providing important parental interest and interaction.
4) As an Interactive Learning Experience Throughout the Day: Read the book in three parts, chapter by chapter. By reading each chapter at the appropriate time of day you will help your child to:
- Establish and re-inforce a daily routine
- Learn the art of planning daily activities
- Look forward to upcoming activities in a sequential manor
- Enhance vocabulary, memory and communication skills
- Employ and develop their creative skills
- Develop self-reliance and independence by helping to create, and then carrying out, their own daily activities and schedules.
- Develop self-esteem and confidence by receiving important parental interaction throughout the day
Interactive Reading Plan:
Chapter 1: GOOD MORNING - Read Chapter 1. Wake up in the morning with Zoo Zoo and plan the day with your child's input.
Chapter 2: NAPTIME - Read Chapter 2 at naptime. Discuss the day so far and plan activities for after naptime.
Chapter 3: GOOD NIGHT - Finish the day by reading Chapter 3 only or read the whole book. Recap your child's day and make morning wake-up plans. Help your child relate to the end of the day ritual of going to bed by saying good night to Zoo Zoo then giving a kiss, a hug and a final good night to you.
